Hello and good luck to all the brave Marathon runner for Monday 31st October in Dublin from all of us here at www.massagetherapy.ie
Did you book your Sport Massage for next week?
When is the best time for a post event of that magnitude?
Each individual is different but possibly immediately after the Marathon get some work done even a 10-15 minutes massage on your legs will be very beneficial to start recovery, as soon as you get to your own home a cold shower or ice bath would also help to lower body temperature and inflammation follow up later on by a lovely hot and relaxing bath maybe using some Epson Salts, get a Sport massage in the next 24-72 hours first to help Lymph system to rid of residual lactic acid second to asses your overall condition as you may or may not have developed a strain, shin splin or even a stess fracture ( fairly common with amateur runners ).
Another little problem is caused by Delayed onset muscular soreness ( DOMS) might start in the next 24 to 72 hours, don't worry it will ease off by the end of the week but nevertheless it is painful and getting a massage at this stage is advised, the therapist is likely to use a multitude of techniques which include Lymph Drainage, Soft tissue release and stretching.
You should contact a local Sport Massage Therapist he/she will advise on best form of treatment.
