Severe bruising during massage
I had a back massage after a seaweed bath in July 2009 ( clinic name cannot be mention for legal reasons). Had some deep work done shoulderblades and on top of shoulders.
The therapist was digging with her fingertips and I ended up with very embarrasing deep bruises on top of both shoulders.
No bruises between the shoulderblades. The practice manager merely offered me another massage and showed no concern for the effort it took for me to let them know what happened.
The therapist when interviewed did say that I did pull away twice due to the pain.
What is best practice in this type of situation?
What was the therapist "digging" with her thumb tips for. She said she wanted to burst something.
I was upset after the bruising but am even more upset at being dismissed. The owner of that clinic after ignoring three phone calls, said there was nothing he could do. He merely offered another seaweed bath on top of a massage. This non gesture merely showed total lack of concern. Therepists and spas have a duty of care to their clients.
The spa advertises "relaxing" treatments. Organic.....good for you.... we care..... Well No they dont.
My friends were horrified at the marks that stayed for almost two weeks. I made the complaint to clear the air but now because of the cold way I was treated I now feel I cannot ever go back to that clinic again.
Discussion please

Severe bruising during massage
The therapist was probably breaking down adhesions or scar tissue or performing frictions on knotted muscles ( most probable) (not sure what she/he meant by ' bursting ' ), sometime that can cause bruising, it is not always a bad thing but the therapist should have warn you that it might happen, also if you were pulling away the therapist should have eased off as you obviously were in pain.
I m not sure how you were expecting to be compensated each clinic or spa have their own policy, were you expecting a full refund?
If they didn't look after you then you shouldn't go back, if they ignored your calls then you should write.
