Case Study Sprained Ankle ( Medial )

This is a typical 'Deltoid Ligament Sprain' otherwise called ' Eversion Sprain'.
The Deltoid ligament is located on the medial side of the Ankle.
This injury is not as common as an ' Inversion Sprain'.
As you can see from the photo (24 hours after injury occured) bruising is present inferiorly and posteriorly, in this particolar case there was some muscle damage as well but in many cases of deltoid ligament tear a fracture may be present as well.
It is always wise to x-ray a Deltoid ligament sprain particolarly if the patient can't walk on it properly.
As with Lateral Ankle sprains apply Rice as soon as possible.
